Your brand-new baby may have arrived or be due to arrive very soon! We are aware of how crucial it is to capture the initial moments during the first few weeks. It can be a little confusing to decide what you want your images to look like and how to choose the right photographer. Well, we are here to help! We will guide you through the world of Newborn photography.

Swaddling

Swaddling Newborns is one of our favourite techniques at the Baby Boutique and it’s something we love to do. Not only does swaddling look adorable in your Newborn photos, but it also has a lot of advantages! It’s a great way to help your baby feel secure and relaxed. New environments and people can unsettle a new baby, but the swaddle helps to comfort them.

It’s often stated that it resembles the feeling of being in the womb. Swaddling protects your baby against its natural startle reflex, it keeps their hands off their face and helps prevent scratching. Which not only protects your baby, but it keeps them asleep longer. Allowing your photographer longer to capture those timeless Newborn baby images.

Professional Poses For Newborn Photography

We understand that you expect your Newborn photography session will resemble the professional poses that you see on social media when you visit our photography studio. Achieving those poses in your images, requires years of training. They are not easy to replicate at home or by a photographer without any formal training, which is why we hope you will consider visiting our professional photography studio.

In classic terms, these poses are known as bean bag poses. At the Baby Boutique, we use specialist soft pillows and layers to produce these pictures. Each session is personalised to the parent’s preference by using soft blankets and fabrics in different colours, textures, and patterns.

Sometimes, depending on your baby these poses aren’t always possible. Our sessions are baby-led and so your baby might not be able to be positioned on their hands. We can’t predict anything until your session starts, but we always prioritise the safety of your baby. We are confident that we will capture beautiful Newborn images of your baby due to the fact that certain poses are more achievable than others.

Our photographers are trained specialists in Newborn Photography and have the skills and knowledge on how to position your little one safely, so that we can create these stunning Newborn photography images that you see on our social media.

Blanket & Soft Rug Poses

A Newborn portrait can be enhanced with texture by using blankets and soft rugs. You can choose to have your baby swaddled or un-swaddled. Accessories and props can easily be added to these images, including special teddies from home, headbands, and flowers. Our fluffy blankets come in a variety of colours and are perfect for incorporating siblings or pets into the session. The tucked-up portraits are created with a unique technique. We won’t give away our secrets, but it’s sure to surprise you when you see our photographers creating this setup. But with both of these poses, safety is always our main priority. Composite Images

Composite photography involves combining two or more different images to create a new image. When photographing your Newborn baby, we capture them in various positions that reflect the style and setup of the chosen image. Depending on the chosen image, your baby may need to be positioned on their side or photographed from above. We provide fabrics and textures that match the composite image. Using Photoshop, we edit the images together. Our collection of composites includes a wide range of options such as flowers, rainbows, baskets, and beds. These composites add a touch of magic to your Newborn Session and we offer over 80 different images for you to choose from, ensuring there is plenty of variety.

Using photography props is a wonderful way to add extra details to your images and highlight the small size of your Newborn baby. We have a selection of cushions and fabrics that ensure the safety of your baby during the photo shoot. Our photographers are trained to position your baby safely and are skilled at capturing the best angles to showcase your little one. Whether your baby is peacefully sleeping in a swaddle or wide awake, we know you will adore the images created with our collection of props. Additionally, you have the option to choose from a variety of colourful and patterned backdrops to further enhance your photos.

Bonnets and Accessories

Selecting the perfect accessories plays a significant role in creating Newborn Images that will be cherished for years to come. To start, we recommend considering the colours in your home and where you intend to display the images. For example, if you plan to display the photo in a neutral or white room, think about your favourite colours and how you can incorporate them into the shoot. The fabrics and textured blankets your baby will lay on, as well as the wraps, swaddles, and bonnets they will wear, can all be matched to your preferred colours. We offer a wide collection of swaddles in every colour imaginable, as well as a lovely assortment of matching headbands.

At our studio, we have carefully curated a collection of accessories that will perfectly complement your session. However, you are always welcome to bring your own items from home, such as a headband previously worn by an older sibling or a scarf from a grandparent. Additionally, personalised blankets, hats, and teddies are great additions to your baby’s photoshoot. We’ve put in a lot of thought and time to ensure that we have the perfect accessories available to create beautiful images that you will treasure forever.

Outfits

For older newborns who prefer not to be swaddled or for those who prefer the look of clothes in their photos, we recommend selecting a properly fitting outfit. It’s important to choose something slightly smaller in size to avoid overpowering the image and shifting the focus away from your baby. Think of the clothing as complementing the baby, rather than the baby merely wearing the clothing. Avoid clothing with words, as it can be challenging to capture all the details correctly in a photograph. Neutral styles or patterned fabrics tend to work best. If you have a favorite item of clothing, feel free to bring it along to your session. However, we also offer a range of newborn items for you to choose from during your session.

And for those with a colourful home, opting for neutrals can help create a striking contrast and make your images truly stand out. That’s why we offer a wide selection of neutral fabrics, backdrops, and accessories for you to use during your session. Additionally, we have neutral backdrops available for your family photos. We offer a vast collection of props, accessories, and bunting that can be incorporated into each image intentionally. We understand that every detail counts, which is why we sit down with you and discuss your desires and preferences to ensure that we create the perfect photos for you. This is also a great opportunity to include special items from home, hobbies, interests, and anything else that is near and dear to your heart in your photos.

Parent Photographs & Poses

We know how important it is for parents to get in the photographs, so you can do this as part of your session. We will never force you to have your photographs taken during your session. But we would like to tell you about the We offer various options for capturing parents with their newborn, ranging from traditional portraits to silhouettes and the popular look-down shot. There is something to suit everyone. We know from experience that you may not be feeling your best, and so it is always your choice on the day if you choose to have your photo taken. Getting in the photos doesn’t mean you have to show your face if you’re not comfortable. Our wide variety of poses give you the opportunity to be included in the images,without fully being photographed.

Participating in the photo shoot and even bringing along family members does not incur any additional charges. We want to make sure you have precious memories captured with your newborn that you can cherish for a lifetime.
